Shmuelik (Sam) Honigman, a fellow Mezeritsher, who stayed with the
Bebczuks during part of the war and after the war. He was the only
member of his family to survive the war. The back of the card is inscribed
in Yiddish: "For an everlasting memory for my unforgettable best
friends Izak and Rivka Bebczuk. Modena, Italy, November 13, 1946."
26). Erwin and Riva Baker as they
appeared in the late 1970s.
27). Riva Baker approximately ten
years ago.
28). Riva Baker and Steve Gershman. Her cousin Marilyn Magerman took
this photo in August, 2003, a year before she passed away. I included
this photo because the other pictures show Riva as a young woman.
You look at that sweet smile of hers and wonder how could a person
who lost her entire family and her husband and endured such atrocities
in her life remain without bitterness? That is the kind of person
Riva was and that image of her will remain with me forever.
