Uh, could you tell me your name please and where you were born.

Yes, I was born Freya Lang in Lambsheim, Germany in 1934.

And your name now?

Now I'm Alice Lang Rosen.

Um, so you were five and half, six years old when the war started?

I was about six years old when the war started, yes, because I had already started first grade. I went to school already in Mannheim. We, we moved from Lambsheim to Mannheim.

Oh uh, is Lambsheim a suburb of Mannheim?

No, Lambsheim is a little--if you know what a Dorf is? A farm.

Mm-hm, a village, yeah.

The farm village, yes. My parents--no--my family were farmers except for my father, he was in textile business and we moved to Mannheim uh, because he had a store--textile store.
