Introduction

The following is an interview with Mrs. Esther Praw on the morning of May 2nd, 1983, at her home in Oak Park, Michigan. The interviewer is Anita Schwartz.

We'll start. Could you tell me your name please and where you are from?

The name should be the maiden name, or?

Your married name right now.

Yeah. Esther Praw.

And your maiden name?

Um, before um, I got married to my husband, that's my second marriage, was Esther Klein, and before was Esther Mandelzys.

Spell that for me.

M-A-N-A. [starts over] M-A-N-D-E-L-Z-Y-S. I didn't spell it for years. [laughs]

And where were you born?

Uh, Opatów. In Poland.
