Ebensee--Liberation

So what did you do when you found out they were gone?

I don't know no... no... nothing 'til they come in. They come in, American soldiers come in with the, with the unit of the Red Cross. They give us some food. They let us go. Where we can go? I was going to the city, you know. So we find a, a warehouse, you know, all with sugar, you know. With sugar. And we opened all the sacks. We pulled open the packages. Everybody was going around with back pockets of sugar, you know. Eating sugar. It killed everybody. They all got diarrhea, see, you know. It killed more people after, you know, the war.

Did you eat it, too? Did you also eat it?

Yeah, I had diarrhea.

Did they put you in the hospital after your liberation?

Yeah, in, in, in, in Italy.
