Auschwitz--Other Prisoners I

Did you ever talk to the, to the prisoners in your block? To the...In the sick block?

Yeah, I talked to them. Sure, I talked to them.

What did you talk to them about?

Oh nothing. We were only talking, everybody hoped the war, the war would finish.

What about to Mengele? Did you ever talk to Mengele?

Yeah, once in a while he used to talk to me. You see, there were, there was lots of Greeks coming after 1944. Lots of Greek Jews...

Greek Jews?

...and the Greek, they always tall and slim and I know they wouldn't last long there. So I used to push them between the beds you know, when they had the selection, you know. You know, I used to push them in.

To hide them?

To hide them. A few got away. I was afraid they going to kill them right there, gonna catch them, you know.
