Jewish Community in Sighet

Can we go back to the beginning? I just--some... Altogether you had how many brothers and sisters?

We were eight children, five girls and three boys.

And only one brother and the two of your were left.

Um, can you describe the community where you were raised? How many synagogues there were, or churches uh, public school institutions?

There was one big synagogue. In our city there was a small synagogue. Most of the time when the Jews weren't allowed to go to pray anymore, they, they came to our, congregated mainly in our house. My father preferred it that way.

Do you know the degree of assimilation the Jews had in the area? Like, were most of the Jews religious Jews...

or were they more so ???

No. Religious.

Religious definitely.
