Outbreak of War

Okay, now when the war did begin, do you remember how you first heard about the war?

Uh, well, we uh, gathered around in small groups in town and you seen a few uh, Jewish people whispering to each other and so forth. And they start uh, uh, evacuating the German Jews from Germany right to Poland. And we were near the border so we had a lot of German Jews in our town. So, and that's how it started. And uh, then we knew it wasn't going to be good.

What kind of changes did you notice in your daily routine right away?

Uh, well I, I felt kind of uh, I, I didn't feel good about it. I uh, after all I was the youngest. I was protected from everybody uh, my uh, brothers and sisters and everybody. And, and I had a good life.
