Michael Opas - [n.d.]

Jewish Community in Łódź

Did you encounter any anti-Semitism before the war, and can you recall a specific incident?

Before the war? Not necessarily. I couldn't recall particular incidents. There was anti...anti-Semitism in Poland, to be honest, but I personally didn't, didn't encounter any. No, I didn't.

Were there many synagogues in your community?

Oh yeah.

Were there many Jewish schools in this community?

Yeah.

Mm-hm.

There were a few Jewish schools--quite a few--and many synagogues. There were, there were also, there were also a lot of conservative synagogues. My father belonged to a strictly orthodox.

Mm-hm.

But there were a lot of conservative shuls, and there were at least one, at least one was a Reform synagogue too. One.

Mm-hm.

Just lately. I never was allowed to go there, naturally.
