Auschwitz--Escaped Prisoners

Do you remember what happened afterwards, when they, when they brought the prisoner back? Did they catch him?

Yeah. I know, one time, I know one time, they catch him, they hanged him. No they run away not from Auschwitz, from Birkenau. One time a girl and a boy. She was Czechoslovakian. She was Jewish, but the boy wasn't. They run away too... She was not harmed, just so lucky. It wasn't far from the border. Obersilesia. They call it Obersilesia. We had a couple, a couple of SS guards, nice guards, put their post very good.

[interruption in interview]

Mr. Mondry, tell me, you, you said that their was a...You said there was a, a boy and a girl escaped. What happened?

You know, they escaped. I think they find them afterwards, in Czechoslovakia. They run out to Czechoslovakia. You know they were on their way? They work, like in Zenten mine, in a mine for Zent. So they build themselves in deep and they put some boards, you know, so before, before they go and bring the pail. Then, they cover it up with boards.

But they caught them?

After, they say, said they caught 'em.
