Family

Let me go back a little bit further. How large was your family?

I had a brother and my parents. And my mother had a prolific family all of whom are gone. I had, I had four uncles and they each had a couple kids, none of whom survived. And uh, my father had a large family but they didn't live to adulthood, you know. Only uh, three lived to adulthood and both his brothers died over there. Just my father got out.

If you had to estimate from an extended family how large do you think, in 1935, say, how large was the extended family? Cousins, aunts, uncles.

Cousins, aunts, and uncles. That'd be twenty on onside and eight-about thirty.

And how many survived from that?

Uh, I have a cousin who survived, one uncle and that's it.

And your parents.

My parents. My brother died here. He also taught at U of M.

Really.

Mm-hm.
