Gentile Suspicion

Do you think that any of these people um, the waiter's family, that they suspected that you were Jews, when you lived those few days there?

No, those--where?

When you lived with the waiter and his family?

No.

You don't think they knew?

No, they didn't know. I don't know if they would mind it or not but they didn't know.

But you think that the, the young man who was a communist probably knew?

I think because he said, "I will put you up until the whole thing is over." So, he must have some idea. And uh, of course, these Schwabisch people was very anti-Semitic and they were singing always. Those German and Hungarian Nazi songs and all that. And...
