Were you relieved? Were you happy that you survived?

Sure, everybody want to live. I don't want to miss nothing. I didn't miss nothing, I'll tell the truth. I have it pretty good here too. I come in 1949, I come to New York, you know. I don't want no help from nobody. I get a little black market illegally too.

Hm.

I was stealing, you know, so I could survive... I was stealing on the stock exchange, you know, the dollar, buying and selling. There can be a number, you know.

Did you try to find out about your family?

Yeah. Try. What's the use of trying? I didn't find... Nobody knew. Nobody knew nothing. I had one sister, she was worser, she was engaged. She was... You know, a religious schoolteacher. You know ??? schoolteacher? And her... her boy... her fiancé ??? somebody ??? he run away ??? somebody to bring him, smuggle him over, but I never hear.
