Teaching Sequence:
Writing Assignment: “Implications” (10 minutes)
Have students write a short, thoughtful paragraph describing what they think is the most important lesson to be learned from a study of the Holocaust
Have students title their paragraphs with a word or short phrase
Write the student phrases on the chalkboard. Invite students to ask one another to explain their titles by reading their paragraphs
Teacher should group the phrases that are similar under general headings
Discussion: “Implications” (20 minutes)
Have students discuss their ideas by expanding upon their written paragraphs and exchanging ideas
Reading: Reading 18A, “Implications of the Holocaust” (15 minutes)
Teacher should write each of the headings in Reading 18A, one at a time, on the chalkboard
After each heading is written, have a student read the implications aloud
