My name is Fred Ferber. Ferber like F, like Frank, E, R, B, likeboy, E, R. I was born in Swietchlowoice, Poland in 1930. Uh, that's wherewe lived the first three years of our lives.

My father and mother at that time had a small store selling food.However, things changed. Eh, was a depression, they lost the business. Andwe moved into a—three years later—sometime in 1933, we moved touh, Chorzow. Chorzow is the largest city, it's got a very large uh, [pause]Chorzow, the name, actually Chorzow in German was Konigshutte uh, King City,Konigshutte uh, because it belonged to Germany a whole number of times. Uh,they had a very large uh, steel, steel making facility, uh. And it was calledKrowleska Huta, which is the same as Konigshutte. Should we start from thebeginning?

The major city is Katowice.

Katowice. So it's an industrial area, Katowice.

It's a very industrial area, a,, uh. Coal mining, tremendousamount of uh, coal mines.
